La Dique of Seychelles

11:49 PM

La Digue Island is a steep granite island lying 52 kilometres from Mahé and 7km from Praslin. Named after one of two vessels in a French expedition from Mauritius to explore the granitics in 1768, it is the fourth largest island in the Seychelles after Mahe, Praslin and Silhouette. It has a land area of more than ten square kilometres.

La Digue, Seychelles is a little know piece of paradise located in the Indian Ocean off of the east coast of Africa. This island is one of the largest islands in the Seychelles, yet its population remains at only about 2000. Most of the people live in one area, near the ferry lines, leaving the rest of the island an untouched tropical paradise.

La Digue is one of the most undeveloped and traditional islands in the entire archipelago. The beautiful, uncrowded beaches are perfect for taking walks, as well as snorkeling in the crystalline water and swimming.

Some people consider La Digue to be the most beautiful island because of the combination of palm lined beaches, crystal blue waters, and enormous granite boulders. La Digue has a fish market at La Passe, which is full of fishermen selling fresh fish. You can rent a bicycle and travel all over the relatively flat coastal areas and beaches from the Anse Fourmis to the Grand Anse.

Great Victoria Falls of Zambia

8:14 AM

The Victoria Falls constitutes one of the most spectacular natural wonders of the world.
The Victoria falls is 1 708 meters wide, making it the largest curtain of water in the world. It drops between 90m and 107m into the Zambezi Gorge and an average of 550,000 cubic metres of water plummet over the edge every minute. The Smoke that Thunders is a suitable name for this impressive waterfall. You can hear the roar from afar and feel the power when you are up close.

The falls and the surrounding area have been declared National Parks and a World Heritage Site, thus preserving the area from excessive commercialisation. The Falls are spectacular throughout the year, but February onwards, after the rain season, has the heaviest flow and volume of spray.

Dry Season: May to October, with better photo opportunities in September and October as there is much less spray.
NB: If you don’t like to get wet and are a keen wildlife enthusiast then this is a very good season to visit the falls. However, please notice that the waterfalls are much less impressive at the time due to the lower water levels.

Rainy Season: November to April, with the Victoria Falls at their peak in April.

NB: Not the best of seasons to view the full width of the falls while on foot, but the aerial view is absolutely breathtaking!

Pyramids of Giza in Cairo of Egypt

5:22 AM

Giza is best known as that part of Cairo closest to the world-famous Pyramids of Giza ( Built for king Khufu, this pyramid was completed around 2550 BC.), situated high on the desert plateau immediately to the west of the urban district, itself located in the valley and centred around the Pyramids Road, linking central Cairo with the ancient wonders.

It is estimated that the pyramid contains approximately 2,300,000 blocks of stone with an average weight of 2.5 tonnes each and some up to 15 tonnes. Its sides measure 230 metres in length. The structure would have towered about 146.6 metres high, but it is now a little shorter owing to the outer casing having been removed to build many of Cairo's buildings during the Middle Ages. The interior design was changed during the pyramid's construction and the burial chamber was relocated.
Pyramids of Giza represent the archetypal pyramid structures of ancient Egyptian civilisation and - together with the Sphinx at the base of the Giza plateau - are the iconic image of Egypt.

Obviously, the Egyptian Pyramids are huge, but standing face to face with them will astound anyone, no matter how many photos or TV shows you may have seen.
