The State Hermitage is a museum of art and culture in Saint Petersburg, Russia. One of the largest and oldest museums of the world, it was founded in 1764 by Catherine the Great and has been opened to the public since 1852.
The museum collection contains 2,967,334 items, including: paintings 16,842 works of graphic art 622,049 sculptures 12,620 works of applied art 300,981 archejlogical objects 737,772 numismatics 1,131,606 other exhibit items 145,464 and about 6,816 items enlarged the State Hermitage collection in 2009 as donations, acquisitions via the New Acquisition Department, receipts from archeological expeditions.
